WHAT IS FCCLA

About Us
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national nonprofit Career and Technical Student Organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12.  FCCLA provides The Ultimate Leadership Experience to more than 220,000 student members and 7,000 teacher advisers from 50 state associations including Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands.

FCCLA is unique among youth organizations because its educational programming and leadership activities are planned and executed by its members-the students!  It the only career and technical c0-curricular student organization with the family as its central focus.  Participation in state and national programs, chapter activities and competitive events provide an opportunity to become strong leaders in family, career and community life.

Ohio FCCLA has been an official state association of the national FCCLA organization since its establishment in 1945.  Comprised of over 17,000 members in over 400 chapters, Ohio offers a diverse scope of programming and events to engage, educate and empower.  Programs include Culinary Arts, Lodging, Education and Training and Family Consumer Sciences courses.

Mission
To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through:

• character development
• creative and critical thinking
• interpersonal communications
• practical knowledge
• career preparation

Purposes

1. to provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life
2. to strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society
3. to encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community
4. to encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony
5. to promote greater understanding between youth and adults
6. to provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities.
7. to prepare for the multiple roles of men and women in today's society
8. to promote Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations
